Face Training Frequency & Split

As with any other body part, the ideal training frequency to lose face fat is twice per week. So, I’d recommend training your face on any two non-consecutive days. For example, Mondays and Thursdays or Tuesdays and Fridays would be perfect.

Since your face does not get trained directly during exercises for any other part of your body, you can do these face fat workouts on the same days as you do your usual workouts for the rest of your body.

You can just as easily do them on your off days instead if you prefer. Either way is just fine.

Face Training Workouts & Exercises

The Ultimate Face Fat Workout Routine involves two workouts: Workout A and Workout B. They are to be done as follows:

Face Fat Workout A

  1. Blinking
    4 sets of 15 reps.
    30 seconds rest between sets.
  2. Seated Up-And-Down Nodding
    4 sets of 15 reps.
    1 minute rest between sets.
  3. Incline Eyebrow Raises
    3 sets of 8-10 reps.
    1-2 minutes rest between sets.
  4. Decline Eyebrow Raises
    3 sets of 8-10 reps.
    1-2 minutes rest between sets.
  5. Standing Side-To-Side Nodding
    5 sets of 10-12 reps.
    1 minute rest between sets.
  6. Standing Barbell Curls
    10 sets of 10 reps.
    1 minute rest between sets.
    (Use a weight heavy enough that it causes you to make a strange looking face where all of your facial muscles tighten.)

Face Fat Workout B

  1. Unilateral Blinking
    4 sets of 18-20 reps.
    1 minute rest between sets.
  2. Back-Foot-Elevated Bulgarian Split Nods
    5 sets of 5 reps.
    3 minutes rest between sets.
    (Be sure to get a good stretch in your double chin on the eccentric portion of this exercise.)
  3. Reverse Mouth Open & Closes
    3 sets of 8-10 reps.
    1-2 minutes rest between sets.
  4. Gum Chews
    4 sets of as many chews as possible in 90 seconds.
    3 minutes rest between sets.
  5. Lateral Smiles
    2 sets of 10-12 reps.
    1 minute rest between sets.
  6. Kettlebell Fish-Face Swings
    1 set of 36-40 reps.
    (Just like normal kettlebell swings, only while sucking in your cheeks and making a “fish face.”)

But, if you truly bought my sarcasm as truth, then you must have been exposed to some of the hilarious junk I came across while “researching” this topic. I managed to find a ton of articles, websites and books written solely about the subject of how to lose face fat.

Seriously… ENTIRE books and websites about this crap. And they were being completely serious.

How is that even possible? I guess I could have continued this post and made it long enough to fill a typical crappy eBook, but I’m only joking. These people are dead serious with their silly face exercises and other such nonsense. Pretty scary.

More scary is the fact that there are actually TONS of people out there buying it both in terms of handing over their money, and believing it’s anything but complete and utter bullshit.

Because honestly, anything about face exercises and double chin workouts and books/articles about how to lose face fat are nothing but bullshit.

In case you forgot or just know someone who forgot, here’s why…

Newsflash… THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO LOSE FAT!

Be it face fat, ass fat, back fat, belly fat, arm fat, chest fat or thighΒ fat, it all gets lost as a result of one thing and one thing only… a caloric deficit.

As I explained in my post about creating your perfect diet plan, a caloric deficit is when you consume less calories than your body needs to burn for energy. This then causes your body to burn your own stored body fat as an alternative energy source. As a result, you lose fat.

This isn’t just my opinion, either. It’s the scientifically proven law of thermodynamics, and it’s what causes fat to be lost from your body as a whole.

And by the way, losing fat from your body as a whole IS the only way you can actually lose fat. Toning exercises for specific body parts, magical fat loss products, and spot reduction are all silly myths and/or pointless wastes of time for reasons I’ve already explained right here: The Truth About How To Get Toned

So Then, How Do You Truly Lose Face Fat?

Simple, and it’s the same answer you’d get if you asked about losing fat from any other spot on your body.

The only way to lose fat from your face is by losing fat from your body as a whole. Create a caloric deficit (through diet and/or exercise) and your body will lose fat. At some point, that fat will come off from the exact spot you want it to come off from the most (your face, stomach, legs, back, etc.).

And that’s really all there is to it.

So, if you want to get rid of your double chin, chubby cheeks, and overall fat looking face, you’re just going to have to lose fat, period.

No amount of pointless face exercises (or anything equally dumb) will do anything but make you look like an idiot.

    • Mostly just the same thing I’d tell guys your age… the amount of training your body can handle and properly recover from gets lower and lower the older we get (not to mention risk of joint injuries gets higher and higher), so just keep a closer watch on what you’re doing, how you’re progressing, and how your body feels. It usually know best, so listen to it.

    • The “afterburn” people talk about is known as EPOC… excess post exercise oxygen consumption, and it’s real and legit and happens after all forms of exercise (more so the higher the intensity).

      HOWEVER, the calorie burn is significantly lower than most people claim (or just incorrectly believe).

  9. Hahaha I should show this to my grandmother. She keeps telling me, “just pump either side of your cheeks or apply oil to your chin and you’ll lose face fat within ten days! And you can also twitch your nose and make constipated-looking face that’ll really help!” and I knew it was BS right from the start. I used to be a fitness freak, but life catches up on you fast. A couple bad break-ups later you let yourself go and have chocolate, because you know, at least THAT feels good, take a look in the mirror and–oh my God, it’s a gorilla staring back at cha!

    Anyway. I randomly stumbled upon this article and as I was reading it, several things crossed my mind:
    1. Bulgarian whaaat? Why isn’t this guy explaining what it really is? Do I have to Google them again?

  15. This is one of the best style of writing and passing information, of course effectively. If it is not written in this manner, then definitely it would not have reached as it is done with now. I liked the writing and also I do 100% agree with final conclusion of creating calorie deficit to lose the fat. But I just want to add one more thing. The strategy to reduce fat is correct. But, to still need to be fit, we must do selective exercise for the body, face and eye to keep looking fit both internally and externally.

    I work out hard everyday (Shaun T’s Insanity cardio)! Also focus on diet to lost weight. I’ve lost 5kgs in 1 month lol. I want to lose another 5kgs in the following month.

    One question:

    Does face excercises can help to lose face fat FASTER when you also do hard workout cardio + diet?

    Or they are totally a crap with or without workout?

    (I know that you have to burn fat in the whole body but there should be something that burns that f*king face fat also. like face cardio or something lol )

  25. Funny stuff, but what about those that aren’t looking to lose face fat, but just wanting to strengthen the muscles in their face? I already have a skinny face, I’d rather have a more pronounced jaw. Seems the only ‘facial exercises’ are bogus or just meant to help prevent/deal with wrinkles. I don’t care about the elasticity of the skin yet, I’m looking to build that square jaw. AND THIS WAS NO HELP!!!
